Abstract

This study investigates language use among refugees and asylum seekers on social media, highlighting its role in expressing identity, fostering community, and facilitating social integration. With approximately 65.6 million displaced individuals, social media has become a vital tool for maintaining connections and sharing experiences. By analyzing interactions on various platforms, the research explores how linguistic choices reflect emotional experiences and social identities. The findings reveal that refugees utilize language not only to communicate their needs but also to navigate complex social dynamics, challenge stereotypes, and assert agency in their new environments. Key themes identified include identity and nationality, solidarity and vulnerability, and the negotiation of cultural comparisons. The research underscores the importance of understanding the emotional dimensions of language use in digital contexts, contributing to the broader discourse on migration and integration. This exploration provides valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners aiming to support refugee communities and enhance their integration into host societies.
